First American edition with four Arthur Rackham colour plates, bound in publisher's pictorial green buckram over boards, heavily embossed in gilt head and foot of cover, with a sailing ship at sea embossed in darker green with black line surround also on cover, similar images to spine, top edge gilt, others un-cut, 278 pages, 8 x 5 1/2 ins., end-papers front and back have the usual browning, otherwise an exceptional copy. This American edition preceeded the British first edition and apparently the Rackham illustrations did not appear in the UK edition.
